Therapy Options for Tendon and Ligament Injuries

Only tendon or ligament injuries with an obvious central core lesion are suitable for Stem Cell Therapy. Mild or old chronic injuries or re-injuries are often not ideal candidates for such treatments.

On arrival at Harben's Equine Care Centre each horse is assessed by our Veterinary Surgeon and the injury examined by ultrasound. Based on this examination and history, and after discussion with the owner and trainer, the most appropriate treatment programme is instituted.

Treatment options include...

  • Stem Cell Therapy
  • Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) performed by our Veterinary Surgeons
Shockwave has shown to be very effective in mild and more chronic injuries.
  • Tendon Splitting.
  • Blistering.
  • More Traditional methods such as heat treatment can be arranged.
  • Intra-lesional Medication using Hyaluronic acid or collagen (A-Cell)

The most important part of soft tissue healing and recovery without doubt is time together with careful controlled exercise. With regular Veterinary Assessment we believe Harben's Equine Care Centre can provide your horse with the environment it needs to maximise healing and minimise recovery time.
